The Wash Process
Proper washing techniques are essential to keeping your vessel’s paintwork in superb condition. Every good detailer knows a proper, professional wash ensures that the paint is cleaned in a way that will not cause any further paint defects or imperfections. Here at Wrenn’s, our technicians are IDA-certified detailing professionals trained in defect-preventative washing techniques.
1 | Pre-rinse
The first step in the wash process is pre-rinsing the entire vessel from top to bottom. This ensures that all large loose particles and contaminants are free from the vessel’s paintwork. It is imperative in the pre-rinse to remove as many particles as possible that may cause minor to moderate defects and imperfections during the touch wash.
2 | TouchLess wash
After pre-rinsing, we began the preliminary washing steps which is followed by a secondary rinse. In most cases, the preliminary wash is in the form of a touchless wash. The entire exterior of the vessel is coated in a thick layer of high foaming shampoo, left to dwell for a few minutes, and then completely pressure rinsed. This ensures that any particles that got left behind in the pre-rinse are cleared before we lay a finger on the paintwork.
3 | touch wash
The primary washing stages follow immediately after the touchless wash. A touch wash is the most aggressive, yet effective approach to tackling paint soil. This is why it is so important to ensure the exterior is as “contaminant-free” as possible before making any contact with the paint. A super-soft, nonabrasive boat brush and linear washing pattern is used to further prevent micro-scratches and swirls.
4 | final rinse & Dry
Once all has been contact-washed, a final rinse of the exterior is done to wash away all soap residue and remaining loose contaminants. Lastly, we complete the wash with both contact and contactless drying processes through the use of blowers and compressed air. Sometimes, a contact drying process is necessary depending on conditions and goals of the detail.
